Ansel Adams grew up in a very conservative household due to his relatively elderly parents, his copious family history, and the live-in attendance of his mother's maiden sister and father. His life style would be considered Victorian, and emotionally tory. Ansel did not fit in well in school because of his shyness and certain genius, but his nose was also off-putting. Adams loved nature, and he spent a lot of time at Yosemite Sierra, photographing. In 1927, Ansel made his first fully visualized photograph.At Yosemite, Ansel met his wife, and they were married in 1928. One man in particular changed Ansel's life in a large way. Albert Bender was an insurance magnate for performers and artists. Ansel was slowly turning away from becoming a pianist, towards becoming a photographer.
This photo seems very serene to me. It's still; unmoving. The way the snow rests on the limbs of trees, and bends the twigs of bushes is quite peaceful. I love the effect this photo seems to have on my mood, it is very calming.
